Diversity & Inclusion

Kindness, Community, & Ordinary people doing Extraordinary things!

We are inclusive to all people and value a safe & welcoming community.

Ornery Mule Racing has taken an active approach to educating ourselves on Inclusion & Diversity topics. American Trail Running Association has been a valuable expert resource for us in helping us build our policies. ATRA holds a yearly conference that we go to "in person" or virtually each year. They have workshops about diversity and inclusion. We appreciate what they have taught us and we are always eager to continue to learn.

Below is a few things OMR has been involved in.

  • YouTube shows to discuss inclusion- Ryan Steiner describes himself as an "Autistic Runner". He was attracted to OMR races because of our message of inclusion. (We list it on our website homepage (He shares that because of his Autism, he did not always feel included in communities.  The trail run community taught him that he can be included. He is passionate about making a change in inclusion & acceptance to help his Autistic daughter grow up in a more accepting world. He now co-hosts a podcast/YouTube show on OMR YouTube channel with inclusion as a focus. We are proud to have him as part of the Ornery Mule Racing team.

  • We celebrate diversity in our community in every aspect of Ornery Mule Racing including marketing, events, athletes, coaches and participants.

  • We listen and are open to new ideas that help all people feel welcome and safe.

Sexual Harassment or Harassment policies

We have taken the time to have action policies in place & we listen. Below is what we have listed on our Rules page of Hennepin Hundred & Kettle Moraine 100 website as what we will do if we have a reported incident.

RULES: Sexual harassment of anyone at the race will not be tolerated. If there are any reports of it sent to the Race Director we will call the police.

Our runner and volunteer race waiver listed below. I have enforced this policy before.

Protecting our runners:

RUNNER & VOLUNTEER WAIVER:  " If you have or have ever had any kind of protection order keeping you from any person in this race, Race director, volunteer, runner, etc... you are prohibited from participating in the race.".

Safety & respect for all people in our community is a number one priority for Ornery Mule Racing.
